Short answer:

Choose an image and keep AI-only selected to remove supported AI provenance metadata in your browser. This does not remove pixel watermarks such as SynthID or guarantee that a platform will stop applying an AI label.

Visual guide for Remove AI metadata from images, showing the local browser workflow
The Remove AI metadata from images tool follows the workflow above in AI Remover Pro.

Which AI metadata can be removed?

The cleaner targets supported C2PA / Content Credentials, IPTC DigitalSourceType, XMP AI fields and Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI parameters. It reports what was detected and removed.

AI-only protects ordinary camera data

AI-only targets provenance markers while retaining ordinary camera EXIF. Full clean is a different, broader workflow for removing supported metadata generally.

C2PA, Content Credentials and Midjourney

The C2PA / Content Credentials manifest is one signed provenance record; AI-only mode can remove Content Credentials here while keeping your camera EXIF intact. Midjourney images carry similar job and prompt data in EXIF and XMP | AI-only mode will remove Midjourney metadata the same way. For Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI output specifically, the dedicated Stable Diffusion metadata remover goes further, clearing the full workflow graph rather than just the summary fields covered here.

Check provenance before deleting it

Use the Content Credentials checker first when you need to inspect the manifest. Metadata removal cannot erase SynthID or other in-pixel signals.

How to remove AI metadata from an image

  1. Drop your AI-generated JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC onto AI Remover Pro.
  2. Select AI-only to keep camera data, or Full clean to remove everything.
  3. C2PA, AI XMP/IPTC tags and generation parameters are stripped in your browser.
  4. Download the cleaned image.

Frequently asked questions

Will this remove the Instagram / Facebook 'Made with AI' label?
Those labels are largely driven by C2PA metadata, which this tool removes. Platforms may also use other signals, and invisible watermarks like SynthID remain even after cleaning.
Do you remove Stable Diffusion prompts from PNGs?
Yes. The prompt, seed and model stored in the PNG 'parameters' text chunk are removed.
Does this remove SynthID?
No. SynthID is an in-pixel signal rather than removable metadata.
Should I check Content Credentials first?
Yes when provenance matters. The linked checker lets you inspect readable claims before creating a cleaned copy.
