Short answer: EXIF metadata — camera model, timestamps, software, exposure settings and an embedded thumbnail — travels inside every JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC photo unless you strip it. AI Remover Pro removes it in your browser, with nothing uploaded, and a full clean also clears the GPS coordinates stored in the same EXIF block. Only metadata is touched; pixels are untouched.

What is EXIF?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata your camera or phone writes into every photo: device make and model, lens, exposure settings, the software used, and often the exact date, time and GPS coordinates. Sharing a photo shares all of it unless you strip it first.

Why remove it?

Protect your privacy and location, avoid leaking which device or software you use, and keep file sizes lean. Full clean also removes embedded thumbnails, which can otherwise reveal an un-edited version of a cropped image.

The same clean works across formats

EXIF isn't just a JPEG thing — Full clean removes it the same way from PNG, WebP and HEIC too, along with the format-specific metadata each container also carries. If you only need one format handled, the dedicated WebP and HEIC pages walk through what's specific to each.

How to remove EXIF data

  1. Drag a JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC onto AI Remover Pro.
  2. Keep Full clean selected.
  3. EXIF (and GPS, thumbnails, ICC) is removed instantly in your browser.
  4. Download the clean photo.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image re-compressed?
No. Pixels are preserved exactly; only metadata is removed.
Will removing EXIF rotate my photo?
The cleaner preserves the image data. Because orientation can live in EXIF, always preview the cleaned copy if the original relied on an orientation tag.
Does EXIF removal also remove GPS?
Full clean removes supported EXIF and GPS metadata. AI-only is different: it keeps ordinary camera data unless you explicitly choose to remove GPS.
Can I keep copyright while removing camera details?
Use the metadata editor to write the copyright you want into the output. The report confirms which requested fields were written.
